Purdue Basketball Lands 7-Foot Isaiah Hill, Its Highest-Rated Recruit in Rankings Era

West Lafayette, Indiana, May 15, 2026, 13:06 ET

Isaiah Hill, a 7-footer out of Pike High School in Indianapolis, committed to Purdue on Friday, handing coach Matt Painter a key piece to launch the Boilermakers’ 2027 class. For Painter, Hill’s decision marks one of his most significant recruiting gets in years.

Timing’s key here. Hill made his commitment just as the May evaluation window kicked off—the period when college staffs scout top prospects in approved recruiting events. Purdue lands its first 2027 pledge before the rest of the class shapes up.

Hill described Purdue as “the best fit for me,” telling On3’s GoldandBlack.com that the program’s staff had been recruiting him since “eighth grade.” “They believed in me,” Hill added. On3

According to 247Sports, Hill stands 7 feet tall, weighs 205 pounds, and plays center in the 2027 class. As of May 15, he’s listed as a hard commit to Purdue. The service ranks him 15th in the nation, second among centers, and first in Indiana. Their Composite, which averages the main recruiting outlets, bumps Hill up to No. 13 overall with a 0.9941 rating.

According to Sports Illustrated, Hill now holds the highest Composite mark for any Purdue recruit since the rankings started, topping Caleb Swanigan’s 0.9910 from his five-star 2015 commitment.

As a junior at Pike, Hill put up 12.3 points, 9.7 rebounds and 4.3 blocks per game, SI noted. According to Athlon Sports, the county’s coaches selected him as Marion County player of the year after his high school campaign.

The upside here isn’t only about his height. Adam Finkelstein, 247Sports’ director of scouting, points out Hill’s 7-foot-3.5 wingspan and calls him “one of the best natural rim protectors”—a shot-changer and shot-blocker in the paint. 247Sports

247Sports national analyst Travis Branham caught Hill in Nike EYBL action and pointed to his “size, length and skill.” Hill knocked down catch-and-shoot threes with ease, looking comfortable away from the paint. Purdue’s pitch isn’t just about adding another traditional post; Hill offers far more than a back-to-the-basket presence. 247Sports

Purdue comes away with a regional victory, too. According to SI, the Boilermakers edged out Indiana, Notre Dame, Louisville, and Kentucky. Earlier this month, 247Sports’ Cardinal Authority had Hill calling Purdue and Louisville his leading options.

Purdue kept rolling out the same message: big men come here, they get noticed. SI pointed out that AJ Hammons, Isaac Haas, Caleb Swanigan, and Zach Edey each found their way to NBA looks after suiting up for the Boilermakers—a record Painter and his staff haven’t hesitated to emphasize when talking to frontcourt prospects.

If things stay as they are, Hill is set to slot into a frontcourt with 7-foot-4 Daniel Jacobsen and 7-foot-1 Sinan Huan in the 2027-28 season, according to SI. That’s a distant target, especially in the age of frequent transfers, but it signals Purdue’s clear intent with its roster construction.

There’s risk in the mix. Hill won’t hit a college court for two more seasons. A hard commitment signals intent, not a signed letter. Finkelstein points out Hill’s still skinny, not yet a full post threat, and needs work on decisions and on the glass; On3 echoed that, saying patience is key as Hill fills out physically.

Purdue just landed a key early commitment that could define its next class. According to On3, Hill becomes the program’s first 2027 pledge; he follows a 2026 class that Rivals slotted at No. 13 nationally.
